The Opportunity:
CENGN is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team and help drive the development and execution of our Broadband Programs. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Broadband Programs, the candidate will develop the strategy and drive the execution plans to deliver on the programs and projects that support CENGN’s mandate to find innovative solutions to the challenge of bringing broadband internet access to rural, remote, and northern communities. The candidate will also build the ecosystem and serve as the point of contact and authority to technology providers and service providers that are selected by CENGN to support residential broadband projects, as well as host communities where technology and business solutions will be implemented and tested.

Key Responsibilities:
Due to the rapid evolution of the emerging network technologies for which CENGN is in the forefront, the Broadband Innovation Manager plays an important role in outlining Broadband Internet solutions based on wired, optical, and wireless technologies, to support the requirements to address the internet access needs of remote communities. The candidate will be accountable for the following:
• Evaluate options for business and technical broadband solutions applicable for Rural and Northern Ontario projects
• Define new broadband project problem statements
• Establish collaborative relationships at senior levels with all relevant organizations in the ecosystem, including technology providers, service providers, and other Ontario organizations engaged in similar endeavours
• Define end to end solutions for Rural and Northern communities leveraging innovative and proven technologies from industry leaders and Small Medium Enterprises in Canada
• From the possible solutions defined, identify specific projects that can be proven in a real community and drive the project
• Provide guidance and support to panel of expert external reviewers during project review process
• Investigate and provide expert analysis of emerging new broadband technologies

Key Competencies/Qualifications:
• Network Architect with experience and knowledge of end to end networks
• Must have designed, operated, or managed deployment of some or all of the following:
o Internet Edge, Access and Core Networks
o Residential broadband network deployments
o Emerging MEO and LEO satellite technologies
o Cloud architectures and solutions
o Virtualized Network Functions in Mobility
o IOT solutions
• Experience in project management
• Understanding of all broadband technologies – wired (GE PON, DSL etc.) and wireless (fixed wireless, satellite, mobile/cellular etc.)
• 5-10 years of experience working for or with an ISP or mobile carrier network
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills
• Overall team player


• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent
• Experience in a team lead or supervisor function with ability to assign projects in a fast paced and challenging environment with rapidly changing priorities
• English oral, reading and writing
• French oral, reading and writing would be considered an asset
• Competency in any other language is also an asset
